A new big hooky 2012 project!

By
January 20, 2012

Good morning lovely ladies,

Because I so want to get rid of my old stash of Nako yarn in order to buy new kind of yarn,

and because I want to start a long project,

and because I want to work on a simple-pattern-project that I can easily carry everywhere and I can grap whenever I want

I started: Love Birds.

I started Love Birds with a little fear (I must confess) because it is a very big project (a blanket to cover our double sized bed with more than a 100 squares) and every square is crocheted with only a couple of colors.

Wanna see?

Let’s take first a look at the yarn…mmmh…my favorite part:

I will not buy ANY NEW yarn for this project before I finish AAALLL this 🙂 This is my 2012 first goal 🙂

I will only buy for the joining because I’ll need then more than one ball from the same color.

I did not decide how I’m gonna join and with what color, I’ll have to crochet some squares first 😉

Ok, let’s take a look at the squares.

Yes granny squares! what else? 😉 Simple, traditional, granny squares with a couple of colors each! I don’t know why the pics are a little “yellowy” maybe it is due to the grey weather … but “live” the colors are yummy 😉

You, surely, understood now why I called it Love Birds… because each square is made with two colors and because it is for our bed 🙂

I’m crossing now my fingers to be able to accomplish such a big project… I need your support and your sweet words as always for an everyday’s push …I’m counting on you my dearest friends 😉

Love Birds will be my BIG project of the year! Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Thank you for visiting today…

Have a super weekend!

Sucrette

I’m sure your blanket will be gorgeous when it is finished. What made you decide to stop working with your Nako? I thought it was a favourite of yours. And what yummy yarn do you want to replace it with?
    xXx Helen

No, I don’t want to stop working with Nako, Nako is still my favorite… maybe I did not express it right 🙂 I want to buy other kind of Nako yarns…not always 100% acrylic or 50%acrylic, 50% wool 🙂 and maybe try out also new online brands … why not? 😉

    gros bisous

Great project! I made a granny square babette for my daughter’s kingsized bed (had to increase the sides though) last year – it is terribly addicting! I used a light beige (écru) for the background (last row) and the colors came out very nicely.
It will surely be as gorgeous as everything you do. Happy hooking!

Hi Angie, I started grannies for my living room, to make a cover for the couch, but haven’t worked on it in some time. I was using colors in the middle with black on the outside of all of them. Grannies are so easy to whip up so I am sure you will finish it rather quickly and, of course, it will be colorful and beautiful as always. Best wishes, Tammy

It’s going to be a very rewarding project! You have a great goal and off to a good start!

Love the way you made granny’s with only 2 colours! I’m working on a very large bedspread as well (2,50 x 2,50 meters…). It’s an order from a friend so it’s business mixed with pleasure! It’s so nice to see the pile of granny’s grow and the happy face of my friend when we lay them out on the bed to see how it will be. And it’s surely a project to do where ever you go! I always carry it with me in my purse, can do it while talking or watching television, so it’s great!
Happy hooking and keep us posted….

  11. Caroline

Toujours aussi jolies ces couleurs. Bon courage.

  17. Stephanie B.

What a great idea! Something I can see myself trying when I have enough leftover yarn to make something. Awesome!

  18. Dorothy

There’s nothing nicer than the good old grannys IMHO. I also like your choice of name. I’ll watch with interest as you post progress pictures.

  19. Teresa

The squares are gorgeous in just two colors. I’ll be cheering you on. I, too am working on a granny square blanket. For my motivation, I have joined The granny a day project over at macscrochet.blogspot.com. So far, this has really helped me stay on track.

Hi Sucrette! I’m your new follower so I’m a bit shy but I still want to say hi 😀 All the best for your project! I crocheted 117 granny squares last year (about the size of your squares) to complete an afghan. Took me about 3 months to finish it all but I really enjoyed the long slow process. Have fun crocheting yours!

  21. Mo

Ooh Angie this is going to be just amazing when it’s finished, and how good you will feel when you have gone through your stash and can, with clear conscience, go on a yarn shopping spree. Ooh what a heavenly thing to look forward to too!!
    Have a happy granny weekend
    Mo x

  22. Tabby P.

I cannot wait to see your progress! I love to see others’ finished works and you think it would make me want to kick my hooking into a higher gear, but no! 🙂 I love all your hookiness and craftiness! Good luck!

  23. Debi Y.

Sounds like a great project to work on – I love the name too. 🙂

  24. Alma

Its looking lovely so far. This is a really great way to get rid of your stash. I also am working on doing that myself. I am working on some granny cushions for my kitchen chairs. Good luck to you!

  25. Patricia

  27. Susana

Hola. Todas las mantas que haces son encantadoras, así que esta que tienes entre manos ahora te quedará preciosa. Los cuadros de dos colores con la unión de un color diferente….. tengo ganas de ver un adelanto¡¡¡¡.
    Feliz fin de semana.

    Susana.

go for it. I have made many picture afghans that required hundreds of 2″ squares. I am now working on a picture afghan (actually it will be a blanket for a full size bed for the grandkids) requiring almost 2400 – 2″ squares and lots of two color squares and when I finish that, I will begin another similar blanket for the other grandchild.

  29. Tracy Marie

I can already tell it’s going to be AMAZIN! Wishing you all the best with your new project! 😀

  30. deb

I love your 2 color granny squares. They are so fun to crochet.
Have fun. I am working on a granny stripe now, my 2nd one and enjoying it so much. When finished, I’m going to start a granny square. Maybe a 2 color like the one you are working on.

  31. Valeria

    I love those squares, Angie!
I have a question for you: do you block them? They look soooo flat!! If you do, how? (pins and water, I guess)
Thanks and congratulations on your lovely work!

  32. Barbara Reichard

Wow! Quite an undertaking. The largest granny I ever did was 56 squares and I thought I would go nuts sewing it together and doing the border. Good luck 🙂
I will be following to watch another beautiful and colorful afghan being created.
    Regards, Barbara

  33. Juliab

Oooh, I love a new project! Can’t wait to see how this turns out. I haven’t worked up the courage and determination to start on a full sized blanket yet. One day…

  34. Claire

That certainly has one of the sweetest, and most appropriate, names I’ve heard! Love Birds. Yummy! Can’t wait to see the joining and finishing! Yay for you!

  35. Stitchy Mc Floss

This is so sweet! I love the title and the reason behind it. Love birds. 🙂

I know you can do this. It’s a big project, yes, but it’s for you love and I know that will keep you going.

I love all the colors. so very pretty. Can’t wait to get updates.

    Blessings always

Angie those squares look good so far and only two colors of ends to weave in per square! I need to use up my stash this winter too.
